Electrical problem

My 8 year old Bulldog has just developed what I think is an electrical problem. When accelerating quite hard or travelling at around 70mph, the clocks are doing a self diagnosis just like when you turn the ignition on. If travelling at a constant 70 mph plus the problem carries on every few seconds.
Any ideas please?

Moin,
check the 5 amp fuse. clean the contacts and the support.
this is the item no. 21 in the circuit diagram. Of these 5 A fuse is a green / red wire to the tachometer It is immersed and which is also supplied with power. I think the fuse and the holder is oxidized.

Hello Jake,

My bike is of the >2005 model, which has less problems with malfunctioning connectors. The earlier models are much more prone to have bad electrical contact in connectors (and possibly in fuse holders). In case you start opening and cleaning connectors, I advice you use petroleum jelly to protect all electrical connections. Don't be afraid that the jelly will introduce a bad electrical contact; it doesn't. Use it on the battery contacts too.

Good luck.
Ronald

Hi Jake,

as our engine vibrates quite a bit, the battery cables tend to get loose...try that first.

Thanks again everyone for the possible cures.I found out last night what the problem was when the Dog broke down due to electical failure. It was the brown wire in the ignition swich that had become un-soldered,It was only a five minute fix when I got the bike home after connecting the brown to the red in the switch.
