Hello All,
i have a bit of an oil leak from the rear hub. its coming from the protruding plug at the top of the hub. sorry i can't name the part as the workshop manual doesnt name it. is it just a matter of pulling the plug out and replacing an o ring...or it is more serious.
the leak came on all of a sudden this morning. i've given it a light tap with a hammer in case its become useated due to vibration....
the bike is a 2002 model with an 05 plate, millage is 5000,
cheers for any help
sean
Hello, can not so correctly understand now which hub you means there, is not it the Kardanantrieb?
sorry...its the rear hub
Can you make please a photo of it?
Hi,
is it the deairation on the top of the axle gearing :?: :?: :?:
Maybe there is too much foam on the gear oil.
Change the oil, then it should be better

Hi there,
it´s exactly as Maddog says : change the oil for a better quality one (Castrol Gear-Oil SAE 80 Hypoid "GL4" , "GL5", or "GL6" works fine...you could use Yamaha´s own Gear-Oil, but it is way too expensive))
Do not try to remove the venting-plug and do not tap it with a hammer..!!
The reason for the leakage is low quality gear oil filled in at the factory  In combination with humid weather and/or high speeds it tends to foam and then spills from the venting plug..
Should the oil already be "milky" - ride the bike before changing the oil..it should be warm - drain completely and rinse with a bit of fresh oil and drain that too. After that, fill up to the beginning of the threads of the filler screw..
