Surrey Guy: AIS Valve removal (Sonntag 19. Mai 2019, 14:32)

OK, I have got the AIS valve removed now and blanked all the necessary holes.
I have been told it does nothing to help the engine and will actually make the exhaust blue...so it's gone.
I had to make up my own blanking plugs out of a bit of stainless rod and I think it looks ok.
I defiantly like to look of the engine without the black pipes running around it.

Hey there. I'm considering doing the same job. Can one block off permanently a-i-s air intake from the air filter housing, or is it better the way you did it? Picture number two with the little hose filter.

The usuly way is to plug the air filter box. Using a Filter protects the engine and gives extra air and mayby noise....or nosy mot inspectors start asking? Important when using a filter check for too lean mixture, sparkplugs...gunson co meter...

Thanks for the tips. I was inspecting these the other day and the "elbow" piece connected to rear cylinder is covered with smoky exhaust residue. Probably small tear or the connection with the hose clamp is quite poor design to start with. This probably explains why I've had more exhaust popping than usual. Also noticed that the front cylinder "elbow" piece is clearly steel with magnet sticking, but rear seems to be aluminium since magnet does not stick there. I do a lot of tig welding at my work place and was considering welding some plugs to the existing elbow pieces but now I think it would be better to plug them directly to the cylinder heads. I found out that there is a Baron a.i.s removal kit for vstar 1100/xv1100 for 20-30 euros. Any chance that these engines are similar if not identical? I'm not very skilled at machining my own special plugs.

So far I dismantled all of ais including the 90 degree elbows. Front one got damaged during uninstall so there's no going back. I've placed two .45 acp bullet casings (12,1mm in diameter) in the hole as many americans have done with their vstars. Now just need to find plug for the 18mm air hole and 5mm vacuum.
